The Dog They Found Had Only Two Legs

A hunter found a 2-year-old Chihuahua that had apparently been abandoned in the woods of North Carolina. The dog was malnourished and sick. The hunter brought Roo to a veterinary hospital in Wilmington. Within 24 hours, Roo started eating again and began his road to recovery."He's been through some bad things, but we're hoping to change his luck," said Melissa Hiott of Dineen Animal Hospital.
The animal hospital quickly raised the $370.for a doggy wheelchair. Someone sent them a sketch for a front wheel suspension ('moi', who else!?!). We will keep you posted.

Remember The Peace Dove? It's Been Replaced

We live in an era of aggressive showmanship. The video above presents the bird Snowball that dances and even bows wildly to applause. This behaviour is not suitable for other quiet white birds like the nowhere-to-be-found peace dove.Remember that there was a flurry of doves in the art world after the carnage of Guernica. This lithograph by Picasso was published in 1949 after a horrible war. We have not really suffered lately, so we get the shallow showoffs like Snowball. Nostalgic? Well...I'm not sure. After viewing that masterfull production by Ken Burns on PBS ('The War', every wednesday night at 10pm), I dont think I want a war and I would rather support the squeals and learn to dance with the wild birds.

Where Are They Now, Mambo And Samba?

Gawd I miss those critters at martini time, when they would peck at the lime slices in our empty glasses. Just a year ago in an experiment that went awry, they flew off never to come back. Actually Mambo, my favorite, came back briefly, but when he could not persuade Samba to follow suit, he went back to that distant palm tree. Both eventually disappeared, probably killed by an owl or other predator. Nikki still looks towards that distant palm from time to time. I switched to gin.

A New Batch of Even Cuter Animalitos

You must admit that these 'animalitos' are a lot prettier than the first bunch I put together 3 months ago Thanks Jackee for letting me steal them from you! All animals including us are potentially 'cute' when looked at the right way, right?
