Many nice comments and a few questions on my first blog. First, indeed I'm very open to questions. The novel I'm working on ( little hope of publication but it just plain fun) is called The Enemy. One question was why would I undertake something like this. Having finished a simple little pet novel, I was floundering around for a new plot. There was so much "hate Bush" diatribe in the media and
among far left liberal thinkers which both offended and hurt me that I was determined to go as deep as I could to satisfy my own thinking. The idea of terrorist plot fiction just seemed to pop into my head at the same time. Perfect match.

Right now I'm working through Bob Woodward's Plan of Attack which is perhaps where I should have begun, but Amazon.com didn't have it in stock. Thanks for responding. Welcome back to blogging with post 2.
Like your story, I was drawn to blogging largely due to feeling "hurt" per personally offensive rhetoric being made in broad slices from the media diatribe and far right.
So - what's far left? Anyone who favors someone different than Bush? And what's far right? Those who write his biography lovingly?
Farther down the rabbit hole it's easy to find tea with hatters. But even hindsight rarely resolves the total case of the missing tarts.
Sorry if my opening tracts on language offended you, Camille. I hoped the long digressive elaborations to take the force of semantics aways from such sensitivities. "Hate" is a strong buzz word best left to children to describe their sentiments towards broccoli. Instead I prefer euphemisms and compromise such as "the broccoli looks so nice on your plate, dear. Here.... you can have mine."
Did your move to the U.S. offend your Canadian roots? Obviously you must have been making distinctions between the two countries. How did you do it without offending the patriotism of your homeland?
My point - is that comparative writing - like politics - is not unpatriotic. Not in the least. Glad you feel same on this.
What was your first novel about?
Seems as though we're both hurt and offended from different sides of the fence. Yes, I think you've got the definition of far left or far right down pat. As I said earlier, I hope to be able to consider both perspectives impartially, very difficult to do when it is filled with "hate" language.
I moved to the U.S. at 16 years old and with the exception of a 2-year posting (my dad was a foreign service officer) in Norway, have spent the rest of my life here. No, I didn't make distinctions between the two countries at that early age and beyond. Always believed we were inexorably bound together by borders, common heritage, capitalism and democracy. Actually, I have dual citizenship. However, since I came here at such an early age, it is to be expected that I would become an American in every sense of the word.
As to my writing, I'm still not satisfied with my "voice" therein. Much has to do with lack of advanced education, experience beyond corporate America, family, children, my beloved Virginia, and God-given intellect. My first novel (unpublished) is about a 68-year old woman and her search for a darling Yorkie terrier, stolen from the back of her car. Oh dear. Almost finished "The Enemy" with the help of a retired CIA agent who is a member of my Gotham writing course -- online out of New York. He's given me the players who would defuse the attack, and suggestions as to how it might be done.

I've dream of my own migration to Canada for reasons outside of politics, too. So it's good to gather the experience of those who have lived both places.
I'm TOTALLY dis-satisfied with most of my writing - which is why I enjoy doing it.
Best to learn about each other in pieces - biographies are far too linear. They do provide some essentials, they rarely admit what's in the trunk of the car...
