Cold Day In Cantamar

One cold morning in Cantamar
A drizzle murmurs on the roof
They say that spring is not too far
Of this we'd like to see some proof

My friend, no signs of this today
The stove just died from some wet logs
The fridge has no activity
We're all frozen, even the dogs

Who would have thought that Mexico
could be cold as northern nations
It's true we never have the snow
But we have no insulation

Our concrete house is so inane
Keeps us protected from bullets
Can't block the cold even the rain
Our roof drips into a skillet

My wife in bed in flannel gown
Tells me to get the stove to heat
There's no dry wood for miles around
Nothing to warm our bones and meat

Yet the sun around the corner
Will soon explode on our small house
And in the span of one half-hour
Will have us dressed in shorts and blouse

Comme si j'y étais...d'un problème, jamais je ne croyais pas qu'on aurait pu en faire un poème...
